WHOLE NUMBERS: For our first area under subtraction, we will cover whole numbers. We will understand about
minuends, subtrahends, and differences. A minuend is the number from which we subtract a number. The subtrahend
is the number we subtract from the minuend. The difference is the answer to a subtraction problem. We will understand
the relationship between subtraction and addition problems. A check is to add the difference and the subtrahend;
this should equal the minuend.
DECIMALS: We will learn how to determine the whole and the decimal parts. Also we will learn to convert
decimals to fractions. We will learn the importance of lining up the decimals. We will learn how to use zeros as
fillers.
FRACTIONS: We will be able to distinguish a proper fraction, an improper fraction, and a complex fraction.
A proper fraction's numerator is smaller than its denominator. An improper fraction's numerator is larger than
its denominator. The answer may be in fraction form or mixed number form. We will learn about numerators and denominators;
also we will to find common denominators. |
