Intoduction to Geometry

We start our study of geometry by getting a feel for a point. A point is without dimensions or shape. When we make a mark with our pencil, we can see it. A mental picture of a point maybe without dimensions or shape, has little meaning. For it to have meaning to us, we must be able to see it.

Get a mental picture of several points tangent to each other at 90°; this will give us a straight line. Also if we take the edge of a plane and put it on the surface of another plane. Where they come together, we have formed a line. The is like the sign we see where the wall and ceiling come together.

If we take one plane, bend it slightly and place its edge on the surface of another plane, we will have a curved line. A plane is a collection of collinear points.

This should help those who just needed a review or a jump start for the "A" student. If you are like most of us, you will need a more indepth study and more examples. For more indepth FREE help download this file (in word 97 format).
